I hired Nina to act as a translator and assistant for three days in China (at the Canton Fair and on factory visits). It is worth noting this was my first trip to China and our company’s first time sourcing. We were looking for a very specific item to supplement a paid business-to-business software platform. We had already done our homework and received samples from multiple factories. We were new to the activity, but we were also walking in prepared.
I reached out to about ten FreeIVA contractors with a concise but detailed description of the trip, its purpose, and what assistance I would need. I received four replies from contractors. Nina’s response was definitely the best. It was spot-on, answering specific questions that I had asked and adding additional details. So I gave her the job. And that was the pattern I saw again and again over our three days in Shenzhen and Guangzhou. Nina not only did the expected things (translation, advice on sourcing, cautionary statements on questionable factories) but she was constantly adding value and efficiency.
Nina took the time to truly understand the product we were trying to source. If I forgot important questions in a conversation with a factory, she politely and correctly jumped in to ensure we got the information we needed.
Here’s a specific example to illustrate my statements above. Half-way through our third day we had our favorite two factories and a shortlist of fallback factories. I expected a slow afternoon as we just closed up some conversations with a couple factories. Instead, Nina went to work. She compiled a grid of all candidate factories and the 12+ important details we needed to know form each. She went factory booth to factory booth and collected the specific details we were missing from each factory. She even pushed to ensure we would receive samples quickly from the top-of-list factories (the ones from whom we didn’t already have samples).
Nina could do all this because she took the time and effort to understand the product we were looking for, why we needed it, and how it would work with our platform.
And, again, Nina gets my highest recommendation.
