I am not just an English-Chinese interpreter, but a very experienced business professional, who understands business much better and is able to communicate from floor-level staff to board members.
Having started my career more than 25 years ago, I have been working in international business, with experiences from both multinationals and grass-root local companies, in both B2B and B2C sectors. During my 25+ year professional career, I managed to accommodate my career path with a full-time degree of MBA from the University of Edinburgh. I chronicle some examples as below:
* 1992-2002, I worked in foreign companies' subsidiary in China, responsible for sourcing, QC, merchandizing, assessment of suppliers. To execute an order, I usually started from the very early state, for example, from concept of a product, to selecting materials applicable for production, and eventually delivering the products to the customers with both right quantity and quality.
* 2001-2002, while preparing my overseas study as an MBA student, I took up several part-time positions:
- Part-time IELTS lecturer and interpreter/translator. Member of Qingdao Translators Association.
- 2002, I won the First Prize in Qingdao ACT Cup Interpretation Contest.
- 2002, I interpreted a 3-day conference between a EU delegation and local government for social insurance policies.
* 2002-2003, studied as a full time MBA student in the University of Edinburgh.
* 2005-2007, while working for TUV Rheinland Qingdao as a Key Account Manager, I hosted the company's annual conferences in both Chinese and English, on which I interpreted speeches delivered by government officials, senior management of TUV Rheinland Group Greater China, and academic presentations by TUV Rheinland experts.
* 2005, I assisted China's first tractor whole-vehicle type approval tests against EU safety standards for a client of TUV Rheinland. During the testing period, I organized technical meeting and interpreted trainings of EU safety regulations for engineers in YTO Group.
* 2008-2012, as one of the founding members of a very specialized manufacturer, I took full responsibilities of the company’s marketing strategies in both China and the international market, and established its international sales team and organized and implemented industrial exhibitions in Chicago, Singapore and Milan. The company was eventually acquired by a global industrial leader.
* 2012, as a key member, participated in proof-reading of national standard of commercial kitchen equipment, on behalf of the above mentioned manufacturer.
* 2012, on behalf of the same manufacturer and regulating government bodies, submitted proposal to IEC to establish an international safety standard for "Commercial Integrated Kitchen".
* 2012-2016, worked as GM for a multi-brand importer and retailer of premium/luxury fashion products imported from the United Kingdom, Italy, France and other EU countries. Full responsibilities of operation from identification and selection of brands and suppliers, negotiations with shopping centers (usually high-end shopping malls), recruitment and training of staff, delivery both products and services to consumers. Often chaired and hosted various exhibitions and VIP customer events.
* 2008-2016, visited customers and suppliers on regular basis in the UK, USA, Italy, France, Spain, Finland, Hong Kong and Singapore.
* Majority of the company's training literature were written by me in both English and Chinese.
