My experience of being a translator started when I was still in university.I majored in English so I did a lot of part time jobs related such as English tutor for kids/assistant teacher in Wall Street English ans so on. but I think the most important one was when I worked as an intern in a French yacht company. I was responsible for contacting with the clients and doing the interpretation while they settle down detail about the contract. and it really improved my spoken English and business knowledge.
Graduated from QingDao university in 2012, I started to work in an American information and technology company call Resource Pro as the client assistant. It was an entirely English speaking working environment and my job was to 1. do the paperworks of translation, 2. keep in touch with the American clients and help them to solve the problems. It was also during that job when I learned much about ourtsourcing and the basic skills of being a commercial assistant. That happened when I was still in my hometown, Qingdao. I worked there for one year before I left for Guangzhou.
I have to admit that I've got more and better opportunities after I came to Guangzhou. The first job I got, also the current one, is being the translator and editor in the "Chinese version of Reuteurs". The company is the best of the same kind in China so I have to be high qualified. Since I have to translate all the important news precisely and promptly, it makes me professional of financial words and knowledge, such as Greek debt crisis/FED rate hike/ECB's QE. Not all of them can be used in the daily life, but that's needed to be excellent in this field.
Meanwhile I aslo have a part time job as an interpreter in an international healthcare center. I don't go there quite often but it helps to keep my spoken English well.
I've got two clients from this platform now. Than's a good beginning and I hope there will be more people who can trust me. The first client I met was from Austrilia, who does the business of pet toys. I found some big and nice pet toys markets and factories and visited with him, helped him to make the orders. The seconde client was from Canada. I went to a business meeting with him and did the interpretation. Then I showed some nice local places for entertainment after the work was done.
